Most people’s dream is to have a motorcycle that can take them anywhere they want. However, there is a crucial step before you ride your new bike. You have to make sure that you have bought a motorcycle insurance policy.

Below are some insurance options that you have as a new motorcycle owner:

Insurance that Covers the Damages Caused by Your Accident

Motorcyclists in most states are required to have liability insurance, and each state has set minimum limits in liability that a driver must buy. Although, liability insurance does not cover your medical or motorcycle repairs expenses. It covers the expenses that are related to property damages or someone else’s bodily injuries that you have caused due to an accident.

There are two types of liability coverage requirements:

  • Bodily Injury Liability
If you have caused an accident that injured a pedestrian or another driver, bodily injury insurance will help cover the expenses that are related to their injuries. In some states, this type of insurance coverage also protects the passenger on your bike, while other states will require you to pay for an additional premium that would cover your passenger.

  • Property Damage Liability
This type of coverage covers the repair expenses for the damages you have done to another person’s property as a result of an accident.

Insurance that Will Protect Your Motorcycle

Coverage for your bike is not mandatory. However, comprehensive and collision coverage will help you pay for repairs of your new bike due to an accident or in case of a theft. Collision coverage helps in paying damages caused by a collision with another vehicle or an object. On the other hand, comprehensive coverage helps in paying your bike if it is stolen and damages caused by covered even like vandalism, hail or fire. Both coverages usually come with a deductible.

Insurance that Will Help if You Got Injured

If you met an accident while riding your motorcycle, chances are you'll get injured as well. Therefore, you need coverage that will cover the medical expenses for your injuries as a result of an accident. Make sure you have at least the minimum coverage that is required by your state.

One of the essential coverages for a motorcyclist is medical payments coverage. This type of coverage helps in paying for you and your passenger’s medical expenses due to an accident.
