Nothing feels good when you see your car looking sparkling clean. Keeping it in good condition isn't just for show, but it maintains your vehicle’s finish and increases its lifespan. Here are some helpful tips for your stay-at-home car washing.

Do Choose the Right Soap

Soap is basically what we use for cleaning. But believe it or not, soaps can vary big time. There is a right soap to be used when cleaning the dishes and bathroom, and the same goes in car washing. Gone are the days when you can use dishwashing detergent to wash your car. Dishwashing soap contains potent chemicals that will not only strip off the wax in your car but also dull the finish. Use car-wash products that are specially formulated for automotive needs.

Don't Wash Your Car Under Strong Sunlight

Washing your car in hot weather or when the finish is hot cause liquids to dry quickly, leaving spots and mineral deposits on the paint. It’s better to wash your car early in the morning or late in the afternoon.

Do Start Cleaning the Wheels and Tires

Start by cleaning your wheels and tires before you start washing the rest of the car. This is to help reduce the time water is left sitting on the body of the vehicle. Also, don’t reuse your wheel and tire cleaning tools on your vehicle's exterior. They have likely picked up small particles of dirt or grime that could scratch your vehicle’s paint.

Don't Forget Out-of-Sight Areas in Your Car

Don’t forget to clean the door and trunk jams. Pop the hood and remove any debris from the windshield’s base. Make sure also to wash the underbody of the car to help remove any harmful deposits.

Do Use Proper Towel Drying Technique

Use a soft towel, preferably a microfiber drying towel, to dry off your car. It is recommended to blot the water up instead of dragging the towel over the paint. This will protect the finish and get the drying job done much faster.

Now that you have learned the do’s and don’ts of proper car washing, you can carry out the whole process at home without spending much on vehicle cleaning services. Moreover, you should make sure you are covered with good car insurance because accidents can still occur even if your car is maintained in an ideal condition.
