Critical Illness is probably one of the worst situations that a person must face. Critical illness is a disease where the sufferer has a risk of dying. Fortunately, many types of critical illness can be avoided with a healthy lifestyle.

A Poor Lifestyle Can Lead to Critical Illness

Many critical illnesses come from poor lifestyle. For example, Obesity can result in diabetes, hypertension, or heart disease. Obesity is, for a vast majority of people, entirely avoidable. People need to have a healthy and have some exercise to avoid going too far down the large end.

Similarly, overindulgence in alcohol or too much stress can lead to hypertension. Hypertension, while seemingly harmless is a silent killer. Strokes, Cardiac Arrest, and organ failure are just a few of the sad possibilities for someone suffering from hypertension.

Like Obesity, hypertension, for most people, is avoidable or at best manageable. Proper diet, exercise, and avoiding too many stressful situations can help control blood pressure. Better to prevent hypertension than allow its many risks from happening.

Overindulgence, Smoking, and Other Bad Habits.

When we are young, we feel invulnerable and eager to try everything. Indeed for most vices moderation is critical. The sad thing is when people overindulge in their vices, and they become habitual.

For instance, nightly drinking might be something a man in his 20s can handle. But an older man probably shouldn't be staying up late to drink nearly as often. But if he already formed the habit, he will have to change his lifestyle. If he doesn't, he is at risk of chronic disease.

Moderation and a Healthy Lifestyle

To make it easy to understand, consider overeating. The desire to drink or eat more food that is good for you must be resisted. The decision not to indulge in food or drink is vital to avoid obesity or other nasty consequences later down the road.

It is not that a person should avoid all the good things in life, it is more a question of moderation. For example, a weekly drink might be acceptable. A steak every couple of weeks is tolerable. The key is to have things but not too often.
